A sludge dewatering machine is an essential component in modern wastewater treatment systems, designed to reduce the volume and weight of sludge generated during treatment processes. By efficiently separating water from sludge, this equipment significantly lowers disposal costs, reduces environmental impact, and enhances the sustainability of wastewater management operations. The separated water is redirected back to the treatment system for further purification, and once treated, it is safely discharged into natural water bodies—closing the loop in the water cycle.
Sludge dewatering can be achieved using various methods, including mechanical compression, centrifugal force, and natural drying. Mechanical dewatering—commonly used in industrial applications—offers the advantage of continuous operation, compact footprint, and minimal odor emission. Each method is selected based on sludge characteristics, operational scale, and treatment objectives.
In the mechanical compression type, conditioned sludge is transferred from the flocculation tank into a series of filtration zones. It is then gradually compressed as it moves along a shaft where the gaps between screw threads continuously narrow. As the pressure increases, water is forced out through the spaces between moving rings and fixed rings. The moving rings constantly shift to clean these gaps, preventing clogging and ensuring smooth operation. The dewatered sludge, now in the form of sludge cakes, is conveyed forward by the screw shaft and discharged at the end. This self-cleaning, energy-efficient, and low-maintenance design makes Avlon’s sludge dewatering system ideal for consistent, high-performance sludge management.
