The Lamella Clarifier is a highly efficient solid-liquid separation system designed to remove suspended solids, chemical flocs, and precipitated contaminants from wastewater. Conventional sedimentation tanks require large surface areas and long retention times for effective settling. Lamella Clarifiers overcome this limitation by using inclined plate settlers, which significantly increase the effective settling area within a compact footprint. This technology allows industries to achieve high clarification efficiency while minimizing space requirements and construction costs.

Before entering the Lamella Clarifier, wastewater typically undergoes coagulation and flocculation where chemicals such as aluminum sulfate or polymers are added to destabilize colloidal particles and form larger flocs. The conditioned water then enters the clarifier through a uniform inlet distribution system designed to reduce turbulence. The flow is directed upward through a series of closely spaced inclined plates or tubes that provide multiple settling surfaces. As the water flows upward between these plates, suspended solids settle onto the plate surfaces due to gravity.

The inclined plates are positioned at an optimized angle—typically around 55 to 60 degrees—allowing the settled solids to slide downward into the sludge collection hopper at the bottom of the tank. This design reduces the settling distance required for particles and significantly improves sedimentation efficiency. Clarified water rises through the plate channels and exits via overflow weirs located at the top of the clarifier. The collected sludge is periodically removed through automated or manual sludge withdrawal systems.
